In Full Bloom: A Stroll Through the Gardens at Riverwood Resort

Spring flowers and trees in full bloom on the grounds of the Riverwood Resort hotel and RV park in DeltaEach spring and early summer, the grounds of Riverwood Resort in Delta, Colorado transform into a colorful celebration of life. From vibrant rose gardens to shady tree-lined paths, this is one of the most beautiful times of year to experience the resort. Whether you’re staying in a riverside cabin or an RV under the cottonwoods, you’re surrounded by blooming beauty everywhere you turn.

The Heart of It All: The Rose Garden

Riverwood’s rose garden is truly the centerpiece of the spring landscape. Lush, mature bushes erupt in color—deep crimson reds, soft blush pinks, coral tones, and rare lavender-hued blooms create a palette that rivals any curated garden.

The varieties seen here likely include:

  • Hybrid Tea Roses – Classic long-stemmed roses with full, layered blooms in pink and red.

  • Floribunda Roses – Bushy and abundant, including lavender and coral shades.

  • Old Garden Roses – The lavender and wine-colored roses resemble antique heirloom varieties, known for their fragrance and romantic shapes.

The rose garden is in the front of the hotel with a walkway into our office. Rooms booked on our garden side will enjoy this view the best from their patios.

Beyond the Roses: Other Flowers in Bloom

The gardens around the cabins and along gravel paths include a vibrant mix of native and ornamental species:

  • Shasta Daisies – Bright white petals with yellow centers bring classic charm and contrast beautifully against deep green foliage.

  • Blue Flax – Light, sky-blue flowers dot the landscape with soft movement in the breeze, typical of Colorado’s wildflower zones.

  • Purple Clematis or Sweet Pea Vines – Draping elegantly over structures and shrubs, these vibrant violet blooms add depth and whimsy.

  • Daylilies (Hemerocallis) – Spotted near garden edges, these hardy, sun-loving flowers bloom in bright shades like golden orange or maroon.

  • Lavender (likely English or Hidcote variety) – Found near walkways, offering calming scent and soft purple spikes.

Together, these flowers create a diverse and colorful tapestry that blooms from late spring well into summer.

Towering Trees for Shade and Serenity

The flowers may be the highlight, but the trees at Riverwood provide the structure and peace that make the property feel so tranquil. Notable species include:

  • Ponderosa Pine – Towering and fragrant, with long needles and thick bark, offering dappled light through the rose garden.

  • Cottonwoods – Large, broad-leafed trees native to the Gunnison River corridor, offering shade and soft rustling sounds.

  • Blue Spruce & Other Evergreens – Add depth, privacy, and year-round greenery near cabins and throughout landscaped areas.

  • Ash or Elm Trees – Broadleaf varieties providing shaded corridors along walkways and RV areas.

These trees not only define the look of the property, but help keep the grounds cool and comfortable throughout the warm months.
